@harold: every time i try to catch barbel in deeper water, bream attack me. That should not mean I don`t like them because sometimes there are big ones with 2-3kg in the place, but mainly prefer barbel. If you catch barbel in a good number, I wouldn`t change the place. Take a look when there are competitions on your area and check out if the guys catch barbel an straight flows. Try fishing there. OK I mus admit: I´m not a fan of kribs (that changes when I fish predator fish).
The temperature is the almost the same in every depth, so the barbel can catch also in shallow water in winter. Just look for a little less flow. Strong flow like an our summer places, are indirect in winter. Have you try to fish your place in winter?
By the way. Winter (when its cold like 2 years before) is not the time for a lot of fish (and not only big ones like some people thinks). With 3 guys we sometimes catch 1 barbel between 60-64cm in 4 hours on a good place. But with 3 guys we can consume 3 bottles of hot wine for avoiding the cold
. Last winter was even a autumn and so you can catch a lot of barbel.
